What’s more fitting for a spring crochet project than a super-cute amigurumi bird?
Attach these quirky-shaped kawaii birds to a purse zip, keychain or mobile phone lariat. They make great keepsakes to give to all your friends – once you’ve got the hang of juggling all the different colours you can make one in under an hour.
This pattern is designed by Carmen Jorisson and was first published in Mollie Makes magazine issue 52.
This pattern is written in UK terminology.
You will need:
● Scheepjeswol Cotton 8, 100% cotton, 50g/170m per ball, one ball each in:
Yarn A - Olive 669
Yarn B - Canary 714
Yarn C - Blue 506
Yarn D - Black 515
Yarn E - White 502
Yarn F - Grey 710
● 2.25mm (UK 13, US B/1) crochet hook
● Small piece of black felt, for the beak
● Two black plastic beads, for the eyes
● Toy stuffing
● Darning needle
● Scissors
● Stitch marker
The bird consists of four parts: the body, the tail feathers and the two feet. You will make each part separately and sew them together before closing the body.
This pattern is written in UK terminology.
Tension isn’t important as long as your stitches are dense enough for the stuffing to not be visible. Make sure you keep the same tension when changing colour.
Finished size:
Your finished bird, including feet, will measure approx. 7cm (2¾") long and 3cm (1¼") wide.
