About the design

This bag bag certainly gives us that happy feeling with its rainbow stripes and summer
vibes. It’s perfect for all abilities and, with such a versatile yet classic pattern, the
colours can be easily adapted to suit any style.

Sam recommends swatching before you begin so you can adjust your tension accordingly, and to also get used to working with raffia if you haven’t used it before. The nature of raffia changes from skein to skein, so swatching before you start will help you get a feel for the material.

Pattern details

You will need:
● 4.5mm (UK 7, US 7) crochet hook
● Pair of Hobbii Go Handmade Bag Straps, 80cm x 18mm – Apricot
● Wool & The Gang Ra-Ra Raffia, 100% paper, 100g/250m per cake; 1 cake each in Vitamin C, Riviera Blue, Grass Green, Shell White, Bardot Red
● Hobbii Rafaella, 100% paper raffia, 100g/130m per cake; 1 cake in Sky Blue (06)
● Darning needle
● 4 stitch markers

This bag is crocheted in rows and made in a single panel, then folded in half and sewn or crocheted closed at the sides. The straps are attached at the end.

The pattern has just two stitches throughout, giving the bag irregular vertical stripes. The Ch1 at the start of each row does not count as a stitch. For texture, every stitch is worked into the back loop of the stitch on the previous row.

Finished size:
Approx. 30cm wide x 35cm high excluding handles
